WebYes, it's normal. No there is no way to do the quest without them joining the fight. You could however just kill all the voidling chickens, not kill the Daeyena and just run away from the fight so they stay alive. I don't know if they could be hostile going forward after that, you might just have to avoid getting near them for the rest of Act 2.
