WebOct 8, 2024 · The leak is definitely coming between the shaft and the seal. It's a 1 piece seal and I used oil to install the 1st seal and a very thick grease to install the 2nd. I was not able to see any visible damage to the shaft. I wonder if I should go to toyota and try the manufacturers seal. Its driving me nuts. WebDec 29, 2024 · 440 Posts. Discussion Starter · #4 · Mar 28, 2014. Yes I did and you're not going to believe the easy solution. The "right" way to do the job is remove the valve cover, timing belt, then cam cap. The cam cap has a bunch of allen (hex) and Torx Plus 40 bolts that need removal. Once this is done the plug can be removed.
